Back story: places I've been through/been to/lived in, in the United States

It took a long time to color in this map, county by county (and, chances are, I might have missed a space). Of course, it took a long time to visit all those spaces...even if I did start back in the 1980s! :)

In the United States, I have lived in Oregon (for 25+ years), in Washington (for over 10 years), in Montana (for 5 years) and in California for 1 year and in Vermont for 1 year. I think. Living in this variety of places has shaped my views on many things.

I have also lived in Chile for 3 years and in Costa Rica for almost a year.

I might post more about that coming up!

I'll be interested to read it if you do! I'm also impressed that you can remember your exact routes across the country going back several decades. I doubt I could do that for 2019!

Well, for the routes, the map making tool allows me to add freeways, so I highlight along that. Also, some of those routes were railroads (the Empire Builder, California Zephyr, Texas Eagle, City of New Orleans and Crescent), so I picked out the counties where they went---which was basically because I wanted to spend a weekend doing clicky research.

As good a reason as any! Long ago, I got hold of a rail map of Britain and marked out all the lines I'd ever been on. Unsurprisingly given how much I use trains, there were a lot, but I still wouldn't be able to say with complete certainty where I'd travelled in, say, 2003.

Well, in the United States, there are only four long distance train routes from Chicago to the West Coast, and I have taken two of those, the Empire Builder and the California Zephyr. So those routes were pretty easy to find. I mean, not super easy, but I wanted to do the research of the exact counties they went through.
